Bat Survey May 2012

There are 17 bat species in the UK, 11 in Derbyshsire and 9 of these in Findern. The Marina’s body of water with its insect life is an excellent habitat for bat foraging. Steve Roe, a member of the Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group who lives in Findern, is undertaking a number of surveys at the Marina.

His recording equipment provides GPS located spots for the different species of bat. Four types were identified on their first survey – the Common and Soprano Pipistrelle, Daubenton’s and Noctule. Mike Coates and Jules Aucott, members of the Wildlife Management Committee joined him for the second survey a week later on the 29th of May when these photographs were taken.
